All students of Felt High School who are sophomores, juniors, or seniors and have a GPA of 3.3 or higher at the end of the third nine weeks are eligible for candidacy for membership in the National Honor Society (NHS).  Selection to NHS is a privilege, not a right.  NHS is more than just an honor roll as leadership, service and character are equally important.  Students do not apply for membership; instead, they provide information to be used by the Faculty Council who grants membership to worthy candidates.

The following are criteria that must be met in addition to the above:

1. Students must have attended the school the equivalent of one semester.

2. Physical Education and aid classes will not be included in the GPA.

3. Grades earned and activities undertaken during the ninth grade year will be included in the selection process.

4. Eligible students will be required to complete and submit the Student Activity Information Form provided by the Faculty Council.

5. Completing and submitting the Student Activity Information Form does not guarantee selection.

6. Only grades from core classes will be used in determining GPA.

7. Leadership may include participation in organizations outside the school.

8. Leadership will be judged on:

   1. Resourcefulness in solving problems

   2. Promoting school or community activities

   3. Positive influence on peers in upholding high ideals

   4. Improving the civic life of the school and/or community

   5. Delegating responsibilities

   6. Exemplifying a positive attitude

   7. Inspiring positive behavior in others

   8. Successfully holding offices or positions of responsibility

   9. Dependability and reliability

9. Service will be judged on:

   1. Willingness to volunteer

   2. Willingness to accept responsibilities

   3. Cheerfully and enthusiastically rendering service

   4. Representing the school in competitions, both academically and in sports

   5. Participates in organizations without complaint

   6. Participation in some activities outside of school such as Scouts, church, 4-H etc.

   7. Mentors others

   8. Shows courtesy

10. Character will be judged on:

    1. Respectfulness to all

    2. Trustworthiness

    3. Caring and compassion

    4. Citizenship

    5. Accepts criticism graciously

    6. Principles of morality and ethics

    7. Complying with the school handbook, rules and civil laws

    8. Honesty

    9. Punctuality and attendance

    10. Good classroom behavior

    11. Avoiding bad influences or environment

    12. Sportsmanship

Qualified students will be given the opportunity to complete the Student Activity Information Form in the fourth nine weeks of the school year.  From this, the Faculty Advisor Council will choose those candidates who meet all the qualifications for induction into the Felt chapter of the National Honor Society.  Students and parents will receive written notification of their acceptance, and a ceremony will be held at the school to induct the new members.   Be aware that members who at any time fail to meet the qualifications will be dismissed from the society.  Members who are dismissed or who resign will not be considered for membership again. 

Being a member of the National Honor Society is a commitment to continued excellence on the part of each member.  Those accepted as members should consider this one of the highest achievements of their high school years.   Their membership will be beneficial as applications are made for college acceptance as well as employment.  Each student is encouraged to aspire to meet the qualifications to be accepted into the prestigious society.
